48 Form "Combined Tai Chi"
48 Posture combined style tai chi
Created in the 1976 by the Chinese Athletic Committee as a means of combining elements of Yang Style, Chen Style, Wu Style, and Sun Style, the 48 was sometimes used as a standard competition routine. But that role was better served by the more concise 42 form, which was created later. The main function of the 48 form is now seen as a recreational form and as a way of introducing the characteristics of the four major styles. In demonstrations it is often performed in 8 - 9 minutes. But students will usually practise it at a slower 10 - 15 minute pace. Here the 48 form is performed by Wang Yanji, a student of Li Deyin, one of the creators of the routine.
